As many of you know I am working on a Toyota Landcruiser. Once a week I go to Curt's "barn" to work on
it. The barn is a large building with a car lift and about every tool known to man inside. The Barn is on a
large piece of land and I usually take Hershey and Bailey to run, chase rabbits, and hunt for critters.
Recently the barn has also been home to "Barn Buddy." Barn Buddy is an old rooster which is blind in one
eye. The rooster was rescued and resides at the barn.
When I go to the barn I find Barn Buddy and place him safely away from the deadly hunters, Hershey and
Bailey. On 11/17/2005, I went to the barn and as usual left Hershey and Bailey in the truck while I began
looking for Barn Buddy. I searched the entire property but was unable to locate Barn Buddy. I decided to
release the dogs and monitor them closely in the event they were able to locate Barn Buddy. After about
20 minutes I was reasonably sure Barn Buddy was not on the property and began my work.
About an hour later I checked up on Hershey and Bailey. As I walked outside the barn I saw both Hershey
and Bailey near the fence line of the property. When they heard me they both turned and to my surprise
they both had multiple feathers sticking out of their mouths. With extremely guilty looks they both dropped
their heads and began trying to walk away from the crime scene. I ran over to the dogs and discovered
about 300 white feathers in a pile next to the fence.
I was in big trouble. I was never going to be allowed back at the barn. Curt arrived a short time later and
informed me that Barn Buddy was taken a few days prior by a stray dog and that the feathers were just
that, a pile of feathers. I was relieved and it looks like I am still allowed at the barn!!!
While Hershey and Bailey were not convicted of the demise of Barn Buddy, he is gone and we mourn the
his loss.
